Apparently unique and unpublished. Very minor deposits, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.


This coin looks official in all aspects, but it lacks an officina letter. The mint mark is TR, unlisted in RIC. Treveran gold from this period was commonly marked simply TR, but bronze coins invariably carried an officina letter. Sometimes letters were obliterated on a coin, but here the position of the TR indicates that no further letter was ever engraved or intended. The intentional absence is also suggested by the existence of four similar examples for Constantine I, listed on 'Not in RIC', which are struck from three obverse and two reverse dies. These five coins clearly belong together, but at present they do not seem to form a separate emission.
